Vocational education or college education ?
The number of people who take the college entrance examination has been
decreasing these years. Some people consider vocational education an advantage to job-hunting, while others argue that a college diploma is more important.
ln my opinion, college education is more advisable or most people. [4lFirst, college education is systematic and students can learn a lot in many aspects. Unlike vocational, which always focuses on just one job skill, college education enables students to develop different po-tentials.15lSecond, to obtain a higher degree, such as a master’s degree, one has to go through college education to a bachelor’s degree first.
In a society where any job skill may become outdated quickly with the appearance of new technologies, the limitations of vocational education prove even more serious. Only college education can prepare us for future challenges.

Studying Abroad: Hardships and Rewards
There is no denying the fact that studying abroad is a hotly debated topic toda y. Obviously, studying abroad has a number of rewards/advantages. In the first pla ce, a student can have access to advanced science and technology as well as de sirable working conditions which might not be available at home. In the second pla ce, he can be exposed to entirely new ideas and trends. Last but not least, by livi ng and studying in a foreign country, one can improve his foreign language much f aster than at home.
Nevertheless, as every coin has two sides, studying abroad also confronts one with a series of hardships. For one thing, learning a foreign language is far from an easy thing at the beginning for most people. For another, a completely new env ironment with different customs and habits may also be a barrier to overseas stude nts, especially to the young. An added difficulty lies with finance: it can cost a lot t o study abroad.
From my point of view, the advantages of studying abroad outweigh its disadv antages. But it is a big decision to go abroad to study and one should take into c onsideration his financial conditions and his ability to adapt to new surrounding. Per sonally, I choose to go abroad and study if I find it necessary.
(Therefore, studying abroad should be viewed as a two-edged sword, which pr esents us with both benefits and troubles. The best policy, as I see it, is to take i nto consideration his financial conditions and his ability to adapt to new surroundin g. Personally, I choose to go abroad and study if I find it .)

Landing a Job Related to One’s Major or Not
That every college graduate lands a job perfectly geared to his major depends on a s eries of prerequisite conditions —that there are sufficient job opportunities, every graduate l oves his major, the pay is satisfactory, and the location of the workplace is ideal, etc. All those conditions render a perfect match between one’s specialty and one’s job a mere wish. In reality, such correspondence is possible only for a few fortunate students. F or most students, some of whom cannot even find a job, they should be prepared for jobs only partially or even tangentially related to their major.
As a matter of fact, college education does not seek to produce students who only e ngage in careers based on their major. More and more universities now emphasize foundat ional and interdisciplinary education to develop broad-caliber students capable of coping wi th diverse challenges in a rapidly changing world. An important function of university edu cation is just to expand students’ intellectual capacity and enhance their emotional maturity. Students must realize that studying a particular major does not automatically guarantee a ready career in that major.
Of course, students embarking on graduate studies should pursue careers related to th eir major. A student prepared to spend two or three years on a Master’s program and ano ther three or five years on a Ph.D. program must have an intense and genuine interest in a particular subject. The failure to work in a related field would be a huge waste of the time and energy, and of the in-depth knowledge acquired.
In seeking a job, a student should opt for the job that accords with his interest and allows him to best exploit his talents. One’s career success depends not necessarily on on e’s specialized knowledge, but on how one updates the existing knowledge and fits into a new environment.
